The Effects of Group Music Therapy Using Orff-Schulwerk on Parenting Stress and Parenting Self-Efficacy of Working Mothers

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of group music therapy using Orff-Schulwerk on parenting stress and parenting self-efficacy of working mothers. The study subjects consisted of 16 working mothers working in Gyeonggi province, divided into 8 experimental groups and 8 control groups. The experimental group was provided with music therapy activities using various Orff techniques such as Ostinato, Bordun, Solo and Tutti, for a total of 10 sessions twice a week for 50 minutes each and the control group received no treatment during the program. The collected data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon matched pair test. The result of this research is below. First, the experimental group showed a decrease in the degree of parenting stress, but the control group showed no significant difference. Second, the working mothers of the experimental group showed significant differences in parenting efficacy score, but the control group showed no significant difference. This study suggests that music therapy program using Orff-Shculwerk can be a effective psychological intervention for working mothers' parenting stress and parenting efficacy. Also, this results indicate that Orff music therapy is an effective intervention not only as treatment for children but also as a treatment for adults.
